Here's what people are saying about Reading Companion...
I've had K-1st graders ask to come in from the playground (the most popular afterschool activity for this group) so they can get on Reading Companion!

~Mike Mitchell, Director, Communities In Schools O.U.R. Center, Hastings, Florida
Spanish Coalition for Jobs (Chicago, Illinois, U.S.) has worked for 35 years to enhance the lives of Latinos, and integrated Reading Companion into all English as a Second Language (ESL) class levels, including Literacy Pathways, a bridge program to fill the gap between the ESL Advanced level and further educational pursuits. This innovative and unique method to learn how to read was enthusiastically embraced by students and teachers at Spanish Coalition for Jobs. The first comments we heard were from the lower levels of ESL students. Student Maria Sanchez enjoys the interactive features of the product and comments "I like when the little man talks back to me, when the man says that I am right about something when I read it right."

~Elba Aranda-Suh, Executive Director, National Latino Education Institute
Students:
I am grateful to have this opportunity to learn English by the help of IBM's Reading Companion. It is like my good friend. I can see the world through the computer window. I can learn to say hello to the world.

~Peiyun, student, Jhuwei Elementary School, Taiwan
Teachers/Administrators:
Through [Reading Companion's] learning records, teachers are able to observe students' pronunciations of particular words and monitor their learning progress.

~Shuling, teacher, Jhuwei Elementary School, Taiwan

A student reported to me that she found the program "relaxing". This was a response I hadn't expected, so I asked her to elaborate. She said she liked the program because "other people don't hear you when you are reading". In other words, she liked that only she knew whether or not she made mistakes.

~Cheryl, teacher, Brooklyn College, U.S.

The IBM Reading Companion has provided our students with the opportunity to access the program from their home or library. The program has given them the opportunity to take control of their own learning, maintain a pace that is comfortable for them, and utilize resources outside of the classroom. This distance learning capability enables them to continue to gain and use knowledge outside of the traditional classroom setting and share this experience and resource with their family members.

~Marlene, Joanna, Sandra, teachers, Union County College, U.S.)

From a teacher's perspective, any tool that gets students excited about improving their skills is a great asset. Reading Companion not only encourages our students to improve, it enthralls them with truly useful story lines.

~Cathy, teacher and vice president, Growth Through Aquatics, U.S.
